If you identify as a geek, which is considered to be cool these days, then you might want to have a geeky wedding. There are loads of ideas you could go with, but here are just some of them.
Superhero
This theme leaves you and your guests with so much choice. With all the recent Marvel films and endless comics of both well-known and lesser-known heroes, it may even be possible for the bride and groom and all their guests to be a different superhero.
How far you go with this theme is up to you. The bride and groom could ditch the traditional wedding attire in favour of full costumes, or the theme could be applied more subtly. Belts and masks representing those of your favourite superheroes could be added as accessories to the couple’s and guests’ outfits. A quick Google search reveals lots of results for themed shoes for men and women, which would add a great touch. Alternatively, you can add capes to your outfits. Ultimately, it can be the small touches that make all the difference, such as superhero-themed flowers, cake and wedding favours.
Pokémon
I’m not suggesting you and your guests dress up as Pokémon unless you really want to. However, the theme can be incorporated into your wedding day.
The slogan “I choose you” can be quite fitting and used on anything, from the cake to the venue decorations. It’s surprising to find how many different ways pokeballs can be used. Bouquets can be made up to resemble the pattern of a pokeball. Even the ring can be kept in a pokeball until it’s time for the vows to be exchanged. Other small touches include themed cufflinks, shoes, ties and jewellery, hair accessories and wedding invitations. Part of the evening celebration could also involve a virtual Pokémon battle between the newlyweds and their guests.
Science Fiction
If you’re a big science fiction fan, you may want to leave the theme a little more open to cover all of your favourite shows, movies and books. This could be anything relating to specific fandoms, or more generalised.
UFO decorations hanging from the ceiling wouldn’t be out of place. You could even opt for glow in the dark, alien decorations on the walls. Cake toppers can be characters from one of your many favourite science fiction fandoms, and a knife resembling a lightsaber can be used to cut the cake.
The wedding outfit choices are endless. The futuristic themes in many books, TV series and films often mean a fantastic choice of dresses and other outfits to gain inspiration from. Admittedly, the choice of outfits for women are more varied than those for men. But there are options, depending on how far you’re willing to divert from the traditional wedding suit.
Whichever geek themed wedding you choose, remember to ensure your guests know the theme. Not only will they want to arrive in outfits to match this, but they will need time to prepare. They might even choose a wedding present based on your theme.
