This year, its 60 years of the Severn Valley Railway in preservation and the 200th anniversary of the birth of modern railways. Step back in time to experience the golden age of travel with journeys behind original steam trains and heritage diesel locomotives.
This summer passengers will once again be able to travel the full 16 miles of line, following an embankment collapse in January. We hope for the line to be fully re-open mid-summer allowing for travel between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth to resume.
A journey on the Railway allows you to discover beautifully restored original stations, travel through a large woodland National Nature Reserve and across the famous 200ft cast-iron Victoria Bridge, all from comfy seats in lovingly-restored carriages dating from 1912.
The Engine House Visitor Centre is at the mid-point of the line and an ideal stop off point. Get close to some very special locomotives including ‘Gordon’ the blue engine and take a peek through the windows of King George VI’s royal carriage. You can also enjoy lunch on the balcony and watch the trains pass by.
This summer families with youngsters can ‘Train to be a Trainee’. Taking place at The Engine House, Highley Perkins the Station Master and Junior the Apprentice will be on hand to introduce a range of fun-filled activities.
There’ll be steam-themed games, the opportunity to jump on an engine’s footplate, and sort the mail in a travelling post office carriage. Can you collect items for Perkins’ lunch and find everything Junior has misplaced in the scavenger hunt?
Plus, everyone’s favourite stay ‘n’ play activity is back at The Engine House with Train Time UK. If your child loves playing trains, they will adore playing mini-trains amongst the big ones!
Activities take place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the school summer holidays, from 11am-3pm. Activities are free of charge to those who travel by heritage train.
